I have a passion for art inspired by a fascination for the natural world. Working outdoors in all weathers enables me to filter out detail and capture the essence of the experience.

By withdrawing from the painting process after repeatedly running paint down the vertical paper, I let the painting 'make itself' - gravity takes a hand and brings a new element to the work. The image is found in the movement of the paint in a style that uses 'controlled chaos'. This is a risky, but exciting method that produces work with a life force that nature has been intrinsically involved in.

This style allows me to express 'being in' rather than 'looking at' a landscape. It captures an impression of the mood or essence of the elemental forces of nature and wildlife.

I also work in my studio, acting upon fresh inspiration to develop ideas and themes and to experiment in a more contemplative environment.

Materials
I work in a mixed medium using watercolour on top of under-drawings in pencil or charcoal. Pencil crayon or chalk pastel and charcoal is added to rapidly convey the message.

In the studio I work in oil on canvas or paper. Sometimes oil is added to give more depth to watercolours. Charcoal or ink drawings and handmade prints also form an important part of my visual production.

My preferred working method is to paint or draw outdoors. I complete works on site, or use sketchbooks to gather visual information for later use.
